Functions of the Division

The Small Business Development Division is responsible for creating new entrepreneurs in areas that have potential for the country's economic development, implementing programs to grow existing small businesses, and providing facilities for entrepreneurs to get the services they need.

Services and facilities especially targeted at the unemployed youth as well as services are provided for entrepreneurs who wish to start new businesses or improve existing businesses.

The main role of the division is to support the start-up of new businesses in areas of potential and to develop existing businesses. For that, entrepreneurship development training programs are conducted, and through this, it is expected to create an entrepreneurship culture by improving the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the youth.

A network of departments, grassroots organizations and microfinance institutions to implement efficient, effective, rapid and effective solutions to empower marginalized people (economic, social, political, physical, psychological, legal, and environmental) and to reduce regional disparity. And with the good contribution of professionals, government, private, public and political sectors and the participation of local and global institutions, contributing to the economic development at the district level to build a prosperous country without poverty.


Functions of the Division

The Prosperity Development Department operates under the Ministry of Women, Children Affairs and Social Empowerment, and the District Prosperity Division operates in association with the district secretaries throughout the island. Accordingly, various programs are implemented by the Samurdhi Division throughout the district, mainly for the low-income earners, with the aim of empowering them, and for that, treasury allocations and various funds are used.
