Functions of the District Disaster Management Unit

| Implementation of preparedness activities to respond to disasters, including assisting government agencies in developing preparedness plans | |
| Producing and disseminating early warnings | |
| Managing emergency operations and coordinating search and rescue operations | |
| Coordination of post-disaster activities including relief distribution | |
| Disaster reduction | |
| Research and development activities | |
| Integrating disaster risk reduction into the development process | |
| Coordinate climate change adaptation programs | |
| Liaising with Ministries, Departments, Armed Forces and Police, Private Sector Institutions, Local Non-Governmental Organizations, International Non-Governmental Organizations and other relevant agencies on disaster risk reduction activities | |
| Obtaining foreign assistance, coordinating and implementing projects for disaster mitigation, response and post-disaster recovery |
