Sports Meet for Persons with Disabilities Held in the District of Galle
The Galle District Sports Meet for Persons with Disabilities was held today, 17th March 2026, at the Dadalla Grounds in Galle, under the patronage of the Galle District Secretary, Mr. K.U. Chandralal.
The event was jointly organized by the Department of Social Services and the District Secretariat Galle.
The objectives of organizing this sports meet included providing equal opportunities to the persons with disabilities under their fundamental human rights, promoting their athletic skills, and to identify their talents to prepare them for future events, including the Para Olympics and national-level athletic games conducted by the Department of Social Services.
A total of 424 talented participants, selected from 22 Divisional Secretary’s divisions, took part in the event, which featured 87 different athletic competitions.
The event was attended by the Additional District Secretary of Galle, Ms. Ayesha Kariyawasam, Additional District Secretary (Lands and Development), Ms. G.G. Lakshmi Kanthi, and several other officials.
The program was organized by the Social Services Officer, Ms. Renuka Kalupahana together with the Child and Women Development Unit of the District Secretariat Galle.
