A charity event in Galle to invoke blessings to those affected by the disaster and to transfer merits to those who lost their lives.

A Bodhi Pooja ceremony was held on the afternoon of  01st December 2025 near the Buddha shrine of the Galle Municipal Council, under the patronage of the District Secretary of Galle, Mr. W. A. Dharmasiri, to invoke blessings for the people affected by the disaster .

The event was attended by the Venerable members of the Maha Sangha, including the President of the Shasanarakshaka Balamandalaya Galle, Most Venerable Kanumuldaniye Chandavimala Thero, and the Registrar of the Galle Shashanarakshaka Balamandalaya, Most Venerable Happawana Revatha Thero.

The Venerable members of the Maha Sangha performed blessing rituals and recited Pirith, offering blessings to the disaster-affected and transferring merits to those who passed away.


Addressing the gathering, the District Secretary of Galle, Mr. W. A. Dharmasiri, stated that this meritorious activity was carried out as a proposal of the Shashanarakshaka Balamandalaya Galle, which was convened at short notice. He further mentioned that assistance for the people of Kandy had already been initiated and expressed his gratitude to all donors for their generosity.

In addition, arrangements have been planned to conduct blessing ceremonies at all temples across the Galle District on the upcoming Poya Day.

A relief collection mechanism will also be implemented through temples to provide assistance to people affected by adverse weather conditions.

The event was attended by the Additional District Secretary of Galle (Admin.), Ms. Ayesha Kariyawasam; the Additional District Secretary (Lands and Development), Ms. G. G. Lakshmi Kanthi, e Chief Accountant, Ms. Dhammika Subhashini; Hon. President of the Galle Young Buddhist Association, Mr. Thiranagama, along with staff officers and office officers of the District Secretariat. The programme was organized by the District Secretariat Galle.
